How to find your router's default password

Default credentials let you log in to your router's admin page for the first time, or after a factory reset. To find yours:

  1. Check the label first. The sticker on the bottom or back of the router usually prints the admin IP address, username, and password for that exact unit. On newer routers this is often a unique per-device password, not a shared default.
  2. Search this database. If the label is missing or unreadable, search above by brand, model, or IP for the documented factory default.
  3. Open the admin page. Type your router's IP (commonly 192.168.1.1 or 192.168.0.1) into your browser and sign in. Not sure which address? See router login by IP.

Shared defaults vs. unique passwords

Older routers shipped with a shared default like admin/admin that was the same for every unit of that model. Most routers sold today instead use a unique password printed on the label, or force you to create one during setup, which is far more secure. App-managed mesh systems such as Eero and Google Nest Wifi have no web login or default password at all - everything is configured in their mobile apps.

Change the default after you log in

Default credentials are published all over the internet, including here. If your router still uses a shared default, change the admin password immediately to a strong, unique one - otherwise anyone on your network can reconfigure it. What is the default password for my router?

Where do I find my router's default login?

Why don't Eero and Google Nest have a default password?
Those mesh systems have no web admin page at all. They're configured entirely through their mobile apps (the Eero app and the Google Home app), so there's no browser login or shared default password.
